My Wife's 2003 Honda CR-V's Drive light in the cluster occasionally starts flashing. The manual states that this means that the transmission requires service, but it doesn't do it all the time, and the transmission is not showing any signs of distress (slow shifts, not being able to engage any specific gear, increased noise, ect). The other morning, I started the engine and after a few seconds the "D" gear selection light started blinking indicating a transmission problem. I did not have a check engine light. I had just returned from a 1000 mile round-trip over Christmas, packed with family and luggage. The CRV had no problems during the trip, which went over some hills.That cleared the flashing "D".
