This weekend I shot a 5-round group of the 77-gr SMK and a 5-round group of the 69-gr SMK (Both Black Hills red box) at 300-meters. I've read a few stories of baffle strikes with the in-house round, but I've had no issues through my can.I tested 7 different factory loads in zero wind, one of them was the AAC 77gr OTM, another was the AAC 77gr Sierra SMK. Averaging multiple groups per load, the "in-house" 77gr OTM was 1.317", the 77gr Sierra was 0.646". I also shot AAC 77gr TMK, which averaged 0.740". The different Hornady loads tested in the middle.Our first choice for 5.56 ammo is PMC’s X-TAC XM193 55gr because it’s likely in stock, usually the more affordable option, and has always gone bang for us. If comparing BTHP, 75 has shorter neck till fragmentation, 75 and 77 fragment more in close and further due to lower velocity fragmenting. Best OTM terminal performer is 5.56 Hornady TAP 75 grain.
