Your lungs can only hold in what you inhale for the first 3-5 seconds, anything after that is just you quite literally wasting your breath. You’re not doing anything different. A few good long drags exhaled after a quick lung inhale does the trick for me though they say not to do that.

For me, I've found the best way to do it is to hold the cart up to my lips and simply inhale for 3-4 seconds, just like I'm taking in a nice deep breath without inhaling a cart.
