My professional opinion as a Marlin gunsmith is to wait and spend the extra money on a JM stamped rifle in 38spl, 357 or 45C. I like the 300 grain jacketed hollow points for hunting. These have some punch reloaded with Hodgdon 322 powder. I just sold my remlin sbl I had for about five years,shot great worked great.I just had to have a 1895GS JM stamped.Going to the range in the morning .My SBL had no problems and sold it to a friend.I hope the GS shoots as well as the SBL did. , The JM stamp means little compared to the year of manufacture. So naturally I want to take a look at them...I look at the markings on the barrel, one is "SC", one is "A", now, I've looked around abit but other than seeing that "yea, they are Marlin models" of the 336, what is the real difference?, JBledsoe. The JM stamp was just a proof mark applied to all guns made in the Marlin factory. All guns made before 2010 have the JM, The JM stamp did not go with the equipment to Remington's factory so no Remington produced guns should have the JM. One caution, I have seen two Remington made rifles with a JM stamp.
