Academic Program Finder. Doctoral Degrees. The Bloomberg School’s doctoral degree programs target students with specific career goals in public health research, teaching or leadership, and typically require a longer time commitment. We offer three different doctoral degree programs.

Doctoral Degrees and Requirements. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees are offered in all of our six departments, and they are administered by the University of Michigan's Rackham Graduate School. These programs usually take six terms of study beyond a master's degree. They include original research, which culminates in a dissertation. Applicants for the MPH, MPH-Distance, and Ph.D. programs must apply through The Centralized Application Service for Public Health . MHA applicants can apply through SOPHAS or the Health Administration, Management & Policy Centralized Application Service ( HAMPCAS ), but should select one application or the other, not both.The MPH degree emphasizes the practical aspects of public health and prepares you for a career in population health and community awareness.
